BEAVER — A 5-year-old girl is dead following a multivehicle crash on I-15 on Sunday afternoon.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesperson Chris Bishop said three vehicles were involved in the crash. An Infinity QX50 and a Mazda CX-9 slowed down to avoid tire debris in the road. A Toyota Tacoma tried to change lanes but could not avoid the Mazda and the impact pushed the Mazda forward into the rear of the Infinity, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The child was in a forward-facing child restraint seat in the Mazda but still sustained fatal injuries.
Two helicopters were called for hospital transports, but officials said none of the other occupants had serious injuries.
The crash happened approximately 15 miles south of Beaver. The Utah Department of Transportation announced after 4 p.m. that northbound I-15 was closed farther south near Paragonah at the exit for state Route 271.
UDOT tweeted that all lanes were opened as of 6:47 p.m. but drivers should expect delays and use caution.
The victim's identity was not immediately released.
