MIDVALE — The driver who police say was involved in Tuesday's hit-and-run at the intersection of 900 East and Fort Union Boulevard that left a pedestrian in critical condition has been arrested, according to court documents.

The driver was identified as 47-year-old Daniel Wilkinson. A probable cause statement said that police identified Wilkinson through a witness at the scene who photographed the vehicle he was driving during the incident. The witness said that after allegedly hitting the pedestrian, Wilkinson got out of the minivan to look at the injured pedestrian, before getting back in and driving away.

The minivan was identified as a gold 2004 Chevrolet Venture with a black rear hatch door with a Utah license plate number. Through the license plate number, police contacted the registered owner, who identified Wilkinson as the driver. The court document said that police were also able to identify Wilkinson by comparing his license photo with a witness photo.

Court documents said that the car was found by an employee of the Public Storage in West Valley City. When police arrived, they found the car parked in the storage unit with the door open. The probable cause statement said that police could see fresh paint on the rear of the vehicle with a freshly painted hood leaning against one wall and another hood leaning against the other.

The man who was hit was identified as a 67-year-old who sustained a broken pelvis and femur from the crash and was unconscious and unresponsive when medics arrived, according to police. He was transported to Intermountain Medical for treatment.

Wilkinson was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of failure to remain at an accident involving serious injury and obstruction of justice.

Further information was not released.
