MIDVALE — Unified police are looking for a man who they say was involved in a hit-and-run at the intersection of 900 East and Fort Union Boulevard on Tuesday that left a pedestrian in critical condition.
On Wednesday, Unified police identified the driver as Daniel Wilkinson, 47. They said he is a white male who is 6-foot-1 and weighs 220 pounds. Wilkerson is also described as having brown hair.
According to police, a man was crossing north to south in the crosswalk when an eastbound vehicle hit him. Police said that a male driver of the vehicle got out and looked at the injured pedestrian before getting back in the vehicle and fleeing eastbound. The injured man, who police said is a man in his 60s, was in critical condition on Tuesday with a head injury.
The Unified Police Department said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that Wilkerson was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Venture minivan with Utah license plate V958ML. The vehicle is described as being bronze and gold with a black hatch door, and police said they expect it will have front-end damage and a broken windshield. Police are asking anyone who sees Wilkerson or this vehicle to call 801-743-7000.
After the incident on Tuesday, Unified police also advised the driver to call the department, saying that if he had stayed after striking the pedestrian in the crosswalk, it could have just been a ticket.
Further information, including the identity of the victim, was not released.
Correction: Police initially identified the man they are looking for as Daniel Wilkerson, 35. On Wednesday night, police said they are looking for Daniel Wilkinson, 47.
