AROUND THE SHIELD — Kyler Fackrell is stepping into a role vacated by his former Utah State teammate.

The former Aggie linebacker agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday, the Chargers announced, just a few days after ex-teammate Nick Vigil traded in his Bolts' blue for a purple jersey with the Minnesota Vikings.

A third-round selection by the Green Bay Packers in 2016, Fackrell played in 73 games over the past four years, including 18 starts. He's totaled 127 tackles, including 88 solo stops, to go along with 20.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. The best season of his career came with the Packers in 2018, when Fackrell had 10.5 sacks before briefly joining the New York Giants on a one-year deal.

The 245-pound native of Mesa, Arizona, had four sacks, as well as a 46-yard pick six in nine starts with the Giants a year ago. Now he's off to Los Angeles, where he'll join a defense that includes former BYU cornerback Michael Davis — and the Los Angeles product's recently signed multiyear extension reportedly worth up to $25.2 million over three years, including $15 million in guaranteed compensation, according to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo.
