Man in critical condition after being hit by a car in South Salt Lake

SOUTH SALT LAKE — A 50-year-old man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while trying to cross the intersection at Claybourne Avenue and State Street in South Salt Lake on Tuesday night, according to police.

South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matt Oehler said the man was struck in a location with no traffic light and officers were called around 9:30 p.m. Oehler said the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition with a head injury, but he was stable.

The driver stayed on scene and was cooperative with police, according to Oehler. Police do not believe impairment to be a factor.

Police said that officers were at the scene investigating the incident.

State Street with be temporarily closed until approximately 11:50 p.m., according to police.

Further details, including the identities of those involved, were not released.
