SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified the victim of a fatal hit and run that occurred on Feb. 7 at the intersection of 200 West and 400 South in Salt Lake City.

The victim was identified as Tai Lam, 78.

Police are still trying to identify the suspect and the vehicle.

The hit-and-run happened about midnight, according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brian Sloan. The man was walking south on 200 West, against the light, when he was hit in the intersection.

The man struck by the SUV was transported to the hospital where he died, police said.

The SUV "did not remain on scene," Sloan said.

The person of interest was driving a silver Chevy Suburban or GMC Yukon XL which may have "cosmetic front end damage," according to Salt Lake City police in a Monday news release. The Utah license plate on the SUV reads "In God We Trust" with an American flag.

Anyone who recognizes the man pictured or has information on the incident is asked to call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000 and reference case number 21-21687.
