CEDAR CITY — A man was arrested Tuesday after police say he attempted to flee from law enforcement officers after trying to pawn property that was possibly stolen.

Around 1:40 p.m., a report was made that a man was attempting to pawn what was thought to be stolen property at a local pawn shop, according to the Cedar City Police Sgt. Clint Pollock in a news release. The man left driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate, Pollock said, and was located by another officer at another pawn shop.

The man refused the officer's commands and fled in a vehicle at a high rate of speed, according to the release. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but say the driver refused to stop.

The driver continued northbound on Main Street for several blocks and then made a sharp turn at Stoney Pine Drive and North Main, Pollock said. The driver then exited the vehicle and officers pursued the man, who was later taken into custody.

Police confirmed that the vehicle the man was driving was reported stolen, as was a motorcycle that was in the bed of the truck.

Pollock said that there were no injuries reported, but the man was taken to Cedar City Hospital for medical clearance as a precaution.

Police identified the man as Steffan Nunley, 28. He was booked into Iron County Jail on suspicion of two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, felony fleeing, failing to stop at the command of a police officer, and traffic violations.
