SALT LAKE CITY — An alcohol-restricted driver who authorities say was driving with a blood alcohol content more than five times the legal limit got herself in even more trouble when she allegedly tried to bribe the trooper who arrested her.
Cyma Roxann Haghighat, 33, of Salt Lake City, was involved in a crash on I-80 near 1300 East on June 10. While speaking to Haghighat, one of the drivers involved in the accident, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper, detected signs of possible impairment, according to charging documents.
The trooper conducted a Breathalyzer test and Haghighat's blood alcohol content registered at 0.26%, or more than five times the legal limit, according to the charges.
During her interaction with the trooper, Haghighat "offered him $1,000 to let her go and stated she would do anything to not go to jail," the charging documents state.
Haghighat was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with bribery, a third-degree felony; DUI, being an alcohol-restricted driver, and operating a vehicle without an interlock device, all class B misdemeanors; plus having no insurance and driving on a suspended license, class C misdemeanors.
Haghighat was charged with DUI and marijuana possession in another incident on Jan. 16, 2020, according to court records. Her next court hearing in that case is scheduled for March 30.
