ST. GEORGE — St. George appointed its first female mayor in the southern Utah city's 159-year history on Tuesday.
Michele Randall, a member of the City Council for the past several years, will serve the remainder of former Mayor Jon Pike's term until the election in November after Pike accepted a position in Gov. Spencer Cox's administration.
"St. George is an amazing place to live and we want to keep it that way," Randall said in a statement. "I'm ready to hit the ground running. I don't think we will miss a beat."
She will be sworn into office on Thursday.
During her time on the City Council, Randall served on the directors' boards of organizations including the Utah League of Cities and Towns, Veterans Coalition of Southern Utah, Doctors' Volunteer Clinic and the Dixie Transportation Executive Council. She also served as the City Council liaison to the St. George Police Department and St. George Fire Department, city officials said.
