LEHI — A North Santaquin man is in custody after fleeing police in a stolen car and allegedly swerving to intentionally hit several vehicles, including police vehicles.

Lehi police officers first saw a red Dodge Dart late Friday evening and noticed it matched the description from an aggravated robbery in Orem. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver sped off, which led to a chase with police that lasted approximately 30 minutes through surrounding cities.

During the chase, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Jarrat James Broadbent, swerved into several police vehicles and a bystander's vehicle, drove into oncoming traffic and went through red lights at double or triple the speed limit, according to a probable cause statement. The pursuit ended when Broadbent crashed into another vehicle, according to the police.

Broadbent was Tased by officers when he exited his vehicle after the crash. Police said he did not comply with their commands or show his hands prior to his arrest.

He admitted to officers he was drunk and stole the vehicle in Lindon, according to the police statement. He also said he was recently released from prison for robbery, fleeing officers and assault charges, according to the statement.

Broadbent is currently being held without bail and was booked on investigation of theft of a vehicle, aggravated assault, failure to respond to officer's signal to stop, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, interference with arresting officer, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
