SPRINGVILLE — A man was found dead Monday evening after a gun was shot during a domestic violence altercation in Springville, police said.
Officers were called to check out an incident involving reported shots fired at an apartment complex at 602 W. 500 South Monday around 5:15 p.m., according to a Springville Police press release. Officers found two girls, aged 17 and 18, outside the apartment.
The 18-year-old girl told police her father was inside the apartment and had a gun. The father started waving the gun around during an argument, the girl told police, and then started arguing with the girl's 17-year-old friend.
"The daughter got between the father and her friend and there was a physical altercation between the two," the police said. "During the struggle between father and daughter, the gun went off hitting the father in an unknown location of his body."
Officers tried to make contact with the man inside the apartment, but he did not answer the door or respond to phone calls, police said. The Utah County Metro SWAT team was called to help make contact with the man.
While waiting for the SWAT team, the 18-year-old girl was treated for a head injury by medical personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital for additional treatment.
Once the SWAT team arrived, they decided to send a robot into the apartment to check on the man, according to police. The video feed from the robot showed the man on the floor of the apartment.
"A SWAT team medic was one of the initial SWAT team members in the home and was able to determine the man was deceased," the police statement read. "It is unknown at this time of the investigation if the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot or if it was a result of the gun going off during the altercation."
The man was identified Wednesday as 50-year-old Neil R. Goslin, of Springville. As of Wednesday, police were still investigating the incident, and Goslin's cause of death is yet to be determined, according to a news release from Springville police.
