WEST VALLEY CITY — Officials say a woman was T-boned and transported to the hospital in critical condition after she tried to run a red light in West Valley City early Saturday morning.
The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 3500 South, according to West Valley Police Sgt. Robert Brinton.
Brinton said the woman was traveling west on 3500 and attempted to make a left turn onto Bangerter against a red light. "There were several witnesses who stated that that's what happened," Brinton said. She was T-boned by a southbound vehicle on the passenger door.
The woman was the only occupant of the first vehicle. "When we were there on scene she initially wasn't conscious, not breathing," Brinton said. "While we were there, she ended up taking a gasp of air and started breathing." The woman was transported via ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center and later to the University of Utah Hospital.
The woman was found to have internal bleeding and is still in critical condition, Brinton said.
There were three people in the vehicle that struck the woman's, Brinton said; all three were transported to local hospitals as well, but the worst injury suffered in that vehicle was a broken femur from the front passenger.
Brinton said the woman may have been under the influence during the crash and police will follow up on that as she recovers.
The officers who responded to the crash heard the nearby gunshots that erupted when a teenager shot another teenager at a West Valley City house party around that time, officials sad.
