TOOELE — One man died in a crash that might have been weather-related Sunday morning as northern Utah valleys saw the first snow of the season.
Dispatchers were alerted to a crash on state Route 112, east of Sheep Lane between Grantsville and Tooele, around 8 a.m. According to Tooele City Police Patrol Lt. Lonnie Collings, an eastbound blue car lost control and slid into westbound oncoming traffic.
The car was struck by a black SUV on the passenger side, Collings said.
The driver of the blue car, a 29-year-old man, was killed in the crash. The driver of the black SUV was transported to the hospital via ambulance with leg injuries.
Both were men and were the only people in their respective vehicles, Collings said.
The crash closed lanes on S.R. 112 for a time while investigators were on scene, he said, but the road has since reopened. Collings said the incident may have been weather-related, as the roads were "very slushy and covered in snow" at that time.
The deceased man's name was not released Sunday pending notification of relatives.
