SALT LAKE CITY — Three Utah high schools in the Canyons School District announced Wednesday that students can return to in-person instruction earlier than expected.
Corner Canyon, Alta and Brighton will all resume in-person classes Monday. Alta and Brighton students will attend in-person classes Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for remote learning. The three schools initially transitioned to online learning after an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Students are able to return to school at the recommendation of local health officials, a district spokesperson said. The district commended all three school communities for their efforts in slowing the spread of the virus.
With fall break, officials reminded families that gatherings without masks or social distancing increases the risk of COVID-19 spreading into the school.
"Not only do we want our students to remain healthy and safe, we want our kids in school," district officials said.
As of Wednesday, Brighton had six COVID-19 cases, Alta had seven, and Corner Canyon had three. Cases at all three schools fell below the 1% positive threshold that would have called for further mitigation under the district’s guidelines.
