BOUNTIFUL — With the help of others, a Davis County family said they have managed to rebuild, after a quick-moving wildfire destroyed their home and 40 years of memories.
The Fisher’s home was destroyed in the 2019 Gun Range Fire, along with two other homes. Hundreds of families were evacuated.
Just days after the wildfire, KSL TV found Daniel Fisher digging through a huge pile of rubble of what used to be his beautiful home on the Bountiful hillside.
“My house was obliterated,” Fisher said. “With the incredible 40 mile per hour winds and the white smoke and the heat, we had about two minutes to get out. That’s it.”
All they had was the clothes on their back. That was then and this is now, they said.
“(I’m) looking at a brand new 2020 home,” said Fisher, standing in front of his new place.
The brand new custom-built home sits within inches of their old one. The Fishers said they couldn’t feel more blessed.
“It feels like we died and went to heaven. It’s awesome,” Cherilyn Fisher said.
The couple said none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for so many who came to their rescue to help rebuild – including Ivory Homes. Someone at the construction company saw their story on the news. Ivory Homes built their home at cost.
“I can tell you clearly, without the Ivory family I wouldn’t have anything. It’s a fact,” said Daniel Fisher.
“We feel extremely blessed by the neighbors and the friends and the many people who built this home and helped us,” said Cherilyn Fisher.
This time around, the Fishers said they’re taking no chances. Daniel Fisher installed his very own firefighting system – including a water hose that can shoot out 30 gallons of water a minute.
It’s the same system wildland firefighters use. They have four of them stationed around their house.
“We have a chance to fight a fire with my own equipment,” said Daniel Fisher.
In addition to the three homes that were destroyed, eight others were damaged.
The Fishers also lost 46 trees on their property. Their daughter has taken some of that property to build a home right next to them.
