TAYLORSVILLE — A man driving a motorcycle without a helmet died after crashing into a parked car in Taylorsville early Friday morning, according to police.

Unified police received a report of a traffic accident around 1:50 a.m., Unified Police Lt. Paul Barker said. Two motorcycles were riding north on 3200 West when one motorcycle collided with a parked car, according to Barker, and hit it hard enough to push the car down the street. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not know if the motorcycles were riding side by side or if the other person was in front, Barker said. The other motorcycle driver is cooperating with police.

The man who died was identified as 56-year-old Terry Chavez, of Taylorsville, Unified police said.

Police are working to reconstruct how the crash happened. 3200 West near 5500 South was closed for a few hours but is now open.
