PLEASANT GROVE — After several days of living under a boil order, residents in Pleasant Grove can now drink freely.
The boil order was issued early Sunday morning after E. coli was detected. City officials announced Thursday the order had been lifted.
The order was issued for anyone living within the Monson service area.
As of Thursday, all samples had tested negative for E. coli and coliform, officials said.
The water has been deemed safe to drink, but officials recommended running a faucet for at least 5 minutes before using it and throwing away any ice made from potentially contaminated water.
Fridge filters do not need to be replaced for any homes except the nine homes on 300 North between 300 East and 400 East — those homes have been asked to take extra measures. Weekly monitoring and sampling will be conducted at those nine homes over the next month to make sure the water continues to be safe.
The positive test samples came from the area of 300 North between 300 East and 400 East, and officials weren’t sure what caused the bacteria to be in the water.
Since learning of the positive test on Saturday, officials notified the Utah Division of Drinking Water, provided water bottles to impacted residents, and flushed the water system in the area.
