PLEASANT GROVE — City officials issued a boil order for all residents in the Monson service area after one test of the residential water system came back positive for E. Coli bacteria.

The city determined after further analysis that the bacteria is isolated to nine service connections in the area of 300 North between 300 and 400 East; however, the boil order applies to a wider area as a precaution. Additional tests confirmed the initial determination, according to a city statement.

The next round of test results will not be available until Monday before noon. The Department of Environmental Quality is working with the city to follow protocols to lift the boil order.

In a news release, the city said it was testing water in that neighborhood "as a result of one residence in that area testing positive for coliform bacteria during our routine monthly testing process of our culinary water system."

The cause of the positive E. Coli test has not yet been determined, the city said. It is conducting additional testing throughout the weekend, and said late Sunday morning that preliminary results of tests taken Saturday have not found coliform bacteria in the neighborhood of 300 North and 300 East.

Things appear to be "moving forward in a positive direction based on all information currently received," the city said, but it can't lift the boil order until it receives two negative tests from the household that initially tested positive.

After the city learned of the positive test on Saturday, it said it notified the Utah Division of Drinking Water, completed an assessment of the system, chlorinated and flushed the water system in the affected area and provided bottled water to residents "directly affected by the test results."

The city will provide updates as more information is available, it said.
