Want to hunt turkeys and bobcats this fall? You’ll have to go online first

Citing ongoing COVID-19 concerns, general season turkey and bobcat hunting permits will mostly just be available on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website instead of at a division office or from a retail license agent like permits are normally sold, agency officials said Friday.The turkey permits will be available for sale online beginning Thursday until Sept. 17. Hunters can still obtain available turkey hunt permits in physical locations after Sept. 17, according to DWR spokesperson Faith Heaton Jolley.— Carter Williams, KSL.com

Coronavirus model projects more than 317,000 US COVID-19 deaths by December

A well-known coronavirus model previously cited by the White House forecasts more than 317,000 U.S. deaths from COVID-19 by December.As of Friday morning, the model from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington projects that 317,312 people may die from the illness — marking an increase of about 8,000 deaths from a previous estimate the model projected one week ago.

IMPORTANT MODEL ASSUMPTION:

391 more COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths reported in Utah Friday

Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 391 from Thursday, with four more deaths reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.The state now estimates there are 7,583 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah. The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 354, according to the health department. Vivint Arena and select Megaplex Theatres to be used for polling centers on Election Day

On Friday, LHM and the Salt Lake County Clerk’s office announced Vivint Arena and three Megaplex Theatres will serve as polling stations for the general election in November.“Our sports and entertainment venues are familiar community gathering places, and we are pleased to join with the Salt Lake County Election Division to provide four facilities as safe, convenient and accessible voting locations on Election Day,” said Gail Miller, owner and chair of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies.The Megaplex Luxury Theatres at Cottonwood in Holladay, Megaplex Theatres at The District in South Jordan, and Megaplex Theatres at Jordan Commons in Sandy will be the theatres used for the polling stations. The company made clear that the voting locations will comply with public health guidelines.— Ryan Miller, KSL.com

After a KSL Investigation revealed serious questions about whether public schools in the state are prioritizing proper air ventilation in the fight against COVID-19, one teacher in the Davis School District is taking her health and safety into her own hands.Mrs. Jamie Meyer, a ninth grade English teacher at North Davis Junior High School, is considered high risk to contract the coronavirus.She and her husband spent the summer working in a basement shop designing a personal air filtration solution with the hope of providing an extra level of protection against the coronavirus. 'Reassuring' study finds children have small risk of death and severe illness from coronavirus

Severe illness and death remain rare in children with COVID-19, a new study suggests, while disparities do appear in kids who may require critical care or suffer complications.Pediatricians described the findings as reassuring as children accounted for fewer than 1% of some coronavirus cases in England, Wales and Scotland; and only 1% of those children died, the researchers reported.The researchers — from various UK institutions — analyzed data on 651 COVID-19 patients under the age of 19 who were admitted to 138 hospitals across England, Scotland and Wales between January and July.— CNN
