Urban Arts Festival to celebrate 10 years with 'COVID-conscious' schedule

In a normal year, the Urban Arts Festival would attract tens of thousands of Utahns to downtown Salt Lake City for two days of music, art, vendors and food.The coronavirus pandemic has taken mass gatherings off the table for the time being. But as 2020 is the 10-year anniversary of the festival, the Utah Arts Alliance didn't want to cancel the event outright.— Graham Dudley, KSL.com

Spanish Fork Holi Festival of Colors postponed

The Holi Festival of Colors at the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork has been postponed to March due to coronavirus concerns.Festival organizers announced on Saturday the new dates will be March 27-28, 2021.Anyone who has already purchased tickets can roll-over their tickets to the new dates, use the tickets at another festival in Ogden or Salt Lake City or transfer them to someone else.Those who would like a refund can make a request by emailing holifestivalofcolorsusa@gmail.com.— Jen Riess, KSL.com

Health department: 345 new cases confirmed, 3 deaths Saturday

The Utah Department of Health Saturday is reporting 345 new cases of COVID-19 in the state and an additional three deaths from the disease.That brings Utah to a total of 46,321 confirmed cases and 363 deaths since the pandemic began.Saturday's number brings Utah more in line with where it had been lately, averaging 365 cases a day over the past week. Friday's number of cases spiked to 552, but many of those were from a lab reporting delay and were actually cases from early July.— Graham Dudley, KSL.com

Some Jordan School District teachers receiving stipends to work from home

Jordan School District teachers heading back to the physical classroom said they feel blindsided by the district’s decision to give online elementary school teachers a $3,000 stipend.“It doesn’t seem right,” said Laurie Larson, who teaches physical education to students with special needs at several schools in the district.Larson said she and fellow teachers were surprised by the news, and wondered why in-person teachers aren’t being offered hazard pay.“They have so much fear of being exposed,” she said. “They are the ones that are going to have to be in the hallways, worried about the bathroom, worried about cleaning.”A spokesperson for Jordan School District said the $3,000 stipend only applies to the online elementary teachers.— Ladd Egan, KSL TV

Gov. Gary Herbert issued two executive orders addressing key parts of the state’s novel coronavirus response.

Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases increased by 552 from Thursday, but that number was "artificially high" due to some backlogged tests.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said the death toll would be massive if the United States allowed coronavirus infections to run rampant to achieve possible herd immunity.
