HOLLADAY — Westbound I-215 is now open at 6200 South after shutting down late Sunday afternoon when a fire began affecting the freeway.
The fire was burning near the shoulder at 2300 East about 3:30, UDOT Traffic tweeted. Initial reports show the fire started on the freeway then moved up a nearby hill, burning between 2 and 4 acres, according to Unified Fire Authority spokesperson Matthew McFarland.
The field fire moved to private property, and burned some outbuildings and trailers in a nearby residential area. McFarland said there were no injuries, or homes damaged in the fire.
The freeway was open again by about 5:30, according to a tweet from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Even though the fire is contained, residents can expect to see smoke continuing to come from the burn area for awhile. Crews will stay at the scene to monitor burn areas.
