Samantha Hayes ReportingAsk any pregnant woman what she fears most and it's probably not making it to the hospital in time. That's what happened for a North Salt Lake woman. She's now in the hospital, but that isn't where the baby was born.
Natasha Bell, Mother: "Two pushes and she was out!"
It sounds like an easy labor, until you find out where Natasha Bell delivered her baby girl. She only made it about five miles before her water broke.
Natasha Bell: "We were not expecting that so we were not prepared at all."
Instead of a hospital room, with a bed and a blanket, Natasha Bell had only her husband and the back seat of their Honda Accord.
Jamon Bell, Father: "It's just not something you can prepare for, that's for sure."
Within minutes after stopping the car, Bell had a baby to deliver. A 9-1-1 dispatcher talked him through the delivery in the midst of road noise, onlookers and a lot of screaming.
"Wrap the baby. Wrap the baby up in something."
"Ok. I have to take off my shirt of something."
Jamon Bell, Father: "It's really ironic because my brother is a doctor in North Carolina. He's a pediatrician and I have two sisters who are both nurses. Then a computer guy gets to deliver the baby, so pretty ironic."
Bell had to work with what he had. He wrapped the baby in his shirt and tied the umbilical cord with his shoelace.
Jamon Bell: "It kind of scared me a little bit. She didn't cry when she first came out. I kind of had to tap her on the face a little bit to get her to cry."
Natasha Bell: "We are just really grateful everything went well."
Natasha and Jamon thought they had two more weeks, but the baby came early. That's why they have not chosen a name. As you can imagine, there have been several suggestions.
Jamon Bell: "The paramedics, they were great. They thought she should be named after one of them."
Rosa has been suggested too; that's the exit where she was delivered. Funny family note here, Jamon's mother was delivered in a car too, a '29 Chevy.
