The large pair of knickers worn by the heroine in the film "Bridget Jones's Diary" was sold at a British charity auction, it was announced Friday.

In the film, Bridget, played by Renee Zellweger, wears the knickers during a romantic encounter with Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), prompting him to exclaim: "Hello, Mummy!"

The pants, which Grant autographed with his character's quote, were sold for 2,000 pounds (2,969 euros, 3,756 dollars) to raise money for London's parks at a charity party in Hyde Park, in the city's centre, Thursday night.

The parks need funds to help them recover following the British capital's hottest summer on record.

Several scenes from the second film in the Bridget Jones series, "The Edge of Reason", were shot in London's parks, including a fight between Colin Firth, playing Mark Darcy, and Grant in the fountains at Kensington Gardens.

The romantic comedies were based on books by Helen Fielding and had great success at the box office.

"Bridget Jones's Diary" grossed 280 million dollars worldwide and "The Edge of Reason" 261 million dollars.
