Sam Penrod ReportingA woman who was murdered by her husband more than four years ago is being victimized again, even after she is dead. Someone is using her checks, pretending to be her.
Sharee Nelson was buried in the American Fork cemetery more than four years ago. She was killed by her husband, and now that man's sister is in jail, accused of forging checks that belonged to the murder victim.
Andrea Hunziker, Victim's Sister: "I'm frustrated, I'm disgusted, and I'm asking for help."
That's how Andrea Hunziker is reacting after learning that someone is forging checks belonging to her sister Sharee, who was murdered more than four years ago.
Lt. Doug Edwards, Orem Police Dept: "We made an arrest of a 37-year old woman, Nicki Warner, yesterday on allegations of forgery and passing a bad check here in Orem."
What makes it worse is that Nicki Warner is the sister to Robert Steven Hatch, who was convicted and sent to prison for killing Sharee as they were in the process of getting a divorce. Andrea Hunziker accuses Hatch's family of taking Sharee's belongings after the murder and not giving them back.
Andrea Hunziker, Victim's Sister: "They stole everything from her, her vehicle, her truck, all of her personal items, birth certificate, all the kids' possessions, everything."
That's how Andrea believes Warner got a hold of her sister's checks. She says her family keeps trying to put her sister's death behind them, but that Sharee's former in-laws won't let her rest in peace.
Andrea Hunziker, Victim's Sister: "My whole family has been through a lot. Basically what she is doing is just like a modern day grave robber to me, that's what she's done to my sister. She's disgraced her when she's not even here to defend herself, but I'm here to defend her, and I'll always be here to defend her."
Nicki Warner is in jail on charges of forgery. She faces new charges as well, because she is accused of assaulting a jail officer yesterday as she was being taken to her cell.
