Sandra Yi ReportingA teenager on the run from police offered a Salt Lake City woman some money in exchange for a hiding spot, but his bribe didn't work.
Gang detectives spotted the suspect in a Salt Lake City neighborhood this morning. The suspect ran into a house and tried to hide, but the woman inside blew his cover.
Stacy Mitts: "And I don't ever shut the door or ever lock it cause Arkansas thing, I trust everybody."
But Stacy Mitts may have second thoughts about that after she got an unwanted visitor this morning.
Stacy Mitts: "I come out of my bedroom and he's on my couch, and he's got blood all over my door."
The teen, had forced his way into Mitts' house.
Stacy Mitts: "He's just scared to death, ain't no bigger than a minute. He said he had warrants. And he said he just jumped the fence from the police and he kept begging me, 'don't call, don't call'."
Police had been chasing the teen, who apparently was so desperate to get away, he made Mitts an offer he thought she wouldn't refuse.
Stacy Mitts: "Well, he told me he'd give me a hundred dollars (laughs)."
But Mitts couldn't be bought. She called police, and officers had the suspect cornered.
Det. Joe Cyr, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "She did the right thing. She got out of her house, she got on her cell phone and called 911 and got the police here."
Police thought the teen also had a gun, but he was not armed this morning. He was arrested on warrants and trespassing.
