A Layton man who barricaded himself in his home this morning is dead following a six-hour standoff.
Negotiators worked to coax the man out of the house throughout the day, but lost contact with him at around 3 p.m. An hour later, when a warrant was obtained, SWAT teams entered the home and found the man in the garage with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the man barricaded himself inside his home at 10 a.m. That's when police got a call that the man had pointed a gun at his wife and a family friend during an argument. They and his teenage son were able to get out of the house, leaving the man inside the home alone.
Layton police say the man did not make any direct threat to take his own life, but they tell us he did say early on in the standoff that a if police officer showed up, he would harm them.
Police say that in July, officers responded to another domestic dispute at the home. That incident ended peacefully.
