Gene Kennedy ReportingA joint effort this morning landed four illegal immigrants in jail for drug distribution. Drugs weren't the only thing agents found during the bust.

Four Suspects Arrested in Drug Bust

Officers discovered cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a stolen handgun.

Around 4:30 am, four men were brought out of the Rosa Linda apartments at 316 S. Cheyenne Street in handcuffs. Investigators say the men are affiliated with a Mexican gang called "Surenos." All of them have allegedly been involved in drug distribution in the area in recent weeks.

Sgt. Bill Robertson / Metro Gang Unit: "This area has been a hot bed for gang activity. We've had a lot of complaints in this area."

The suspects had been under surveillance for some time because neighbors were calling police, saying someone was threatening them with a gun. Officers say these threats continued over a period of time. Then police felt it was time to step in.

Sgt. Bill Robertson, Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit: "There have been several instances down here that the city's had to respond on, on aggravated assaults and aggravated situations. There have been weapons recovered in vehicles trying to get out of the area. There have been rounds found down here, spent casings. Obviously the city and metro gang unit knew we had to come down here and make an impact, clean up things."

The four men have been booked into Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of possession and distribution of drugs. But once the case makes its' way through the courts, police say Immigration and Customs Enforcement will take over and deport the suspects. The Metro Gang Unit tells us all four are illegal immigrants.

Once the case gets through the courts, Immigrations and Customs enforcement will deport the men.
