A thief struck twice at Woods Cross High School. Police are now hoping surveillance video will lead to an arrest.

Last Thursday night, the thief stole items just before students served a dinner for the homeless. Then Saturday during basketball practice, same story. In both cases, the thief didn't break in; he walked in and blended in.

Surveillance video shows him wearing a hoodie, a hat and some gloves. As he's looking at trophies in a glass case, students pass but don't notice him. They may have thought he was one of them.

"My suspicion is, looking at the video, that he's possibly a former student. He's obviously older than the high school age and he seemed to know his way around the school, where he was going," said James Sheldon, Woods Cross school resource officer.

The surveillance video shows the man picking up a backpack that was left on the floor. He stole items from that, plus a laptop computer, cash and a digital camera. It all adds up to a few thousand dollars worth of stolen goods.

The man has a light mustache. But with the hat he's wearing, it's tough to see his face.

"It's difficult, but if anyone can help us identify this person or may have suspicions of who this person is, we would appreciate their input," Sheldon said.

The video also shows the thief using a cell phone. This makes police wondering if someone else is helping him commit the crimes.

If you can provide any helpful information, please call Officer Sheldon at (801) 402-4550.
