(KSL News/AP) Ogden firefighters rescued six people and a dog from the roof of a burning apartment building this morning, but two cats died in the fire.
Crews used ladders to get everyone down from the roof of the building at 685 27th St. Thirteen people were living inside the building at the time. One person was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation but was treated and released.
Ogden fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. They found heavy smoke and fire damage at the primary escape routes for occupants on the second floor. They say that's why those people were trapped on the roof.
The fire department says the estimated damage to the building is $30,000. The structure is an old building converted to five apartments.
Those who were not able to return to their apartments are staying with family and friends or receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
