OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- There's a lot of interest in a Ogden City Council seat.

Thirty-nine people have applied for the seat vacated when Bill Glasmann resigned last month to accept a post with Ogden's Community and Economic Development Department.

City Council Chairman Jesse Garcia says he's not surprised by the number of applicants.

He says the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of economic development projects likely played a part in attracting so many candidates.

The City Council will give applicants four minutes to explain their reasons for wanting to serve and will name five finalists during a public meeting September 20th. The council will make a selection from those finalists.

The new member is slated to take office on September 27th and would serve through December 2007.
