With rivalry week comes a lot of trash talking and a lot of rivalry pranks, but it also brings with it a lot of donations.
Over the course of the week several businesses around the state, including KSL, have participated in a rivalry food donation to benefit the Utah Food Bank.
Jim Pugh, the executive director at the food bank, says an increasing number of people are getting involved. "We've got businesses, we have all sorts of schools that are contacting us and letting us know they specifically want their donations to either go to the University of Utah or to BYU, depending on their preference, to not only help their team on the field but in the food drive competition for the week."
Pugh says when the donations come in -- money or food -- the amount is applied to each team. It's then tallied. At the end of the week a winner is announced.
In the years past, Pugh says the University of Utah has won when it comes to money donations, and BYU has won when it comes to food donation. Either way, he says, it all goes to a good cause.
If you will be heading to the game, the food bank will be there to take donations. Pugh says for every dollar donated, the food bank can buy 4 pounds of food.
