(KSL News) Catholic Bishops in Slovakia are urging their faithful against supporting the LDS Church.
Earlier this month, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints asked Slovaks to sign a petition to support the set-up of a church.
Twenty-thousand signatures are required for a church to be legally registered.
The LDS Church says it is not asking for converts, only for the rights to build a church. Catholic Bishops in the area say the Mormon doctrine is not in line with the Catholic church, and are calling on their members not to sign the petition.
There are about 200 members of the LDS church in Slovakia and about 2,000 in the neighboring Czech Republic.
