CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- A jury on Thursday found stranded motorist Bryan Featherhat guilty of attempting to kill a Cedar City police officer who had stopped to offer assistance.

Utah State Courts spokeswoman Nancy Volmer says jurors found Featherhat guilty of both attempted aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.

A sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 6 in Cedar City's 5th District Court.

Officer Jason Thomas was shot twice with a 12-gauge shotgun in January 2007 after stopping to help Featherhat, whose pickup truck slid off an icy road.

Thomas recovered from the injuries.

Featherhat's trial began Monday.
