Proposition 8 protesters targeted the LDS temple in New York last night.
Demonstrators lined both sides of the avenue near the Lincoln Center, chanting "Shame on you."
Aaron Eiseman recently proposed to his gay partner. He said, "We are equal citizens of this country."
Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of the TV show "The View" was there. She said, "It's a very complicated issue. If you want to get married as an American citizen, you should be able to."
Church spokesman Michael Otterson said that while citizens have the right to protest, he was "puzzled" and "disturbed" by the gathering since the majority of California's voters had approved the amendment.
"This was a very broad-based coalition that defended traditional marriage in a free and democratic election," Otterson said, referring to the numerous religious and social conservative groups that sponsored Proposition 8.
