BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- Utah's popular peach crop is a fine one this year. That's according to farmers. The peach harvest typically continues through September.
Ron Burningham of Willard says the crop is plentiful and has good texture and taste. He says we have a good climate, good water and lots of open space.
Utah State University's agricultural extension agent Mike Pace says this summer's weather patterns and NOT a lot of rain -- made for a good peach-growing year.
According to statistics, Box Elder County ranks first in peach production. In 2002, there were 75 peach farms and 529 peach-bearing acres in the county. Utah County ranks second, with 520 peach-bearing acres.
Brigham City celebrates the peach with a two-day celebration, which began today.
