Alex Cabrero ReportingIt's been almost five months since a West Valley mother last heard from her son. 18-year old Diego Acevedo told his mother he was going to the library, but she never heard from him again. A search is planned for this weekend.
A week after he disappeared, Acevedo's abandoned car was found in Wyoming off I-80 near Little America. This Saturday morning, that's also where a massive search will begin.
It's been 131 days and still, his bedroom looks exactly the same now as it did in April. Gabriella Acevedo just can't bring herself to change a thing.
Gabriella Acevedo, West Valley: "Because I'm waiting for my son. I can't make anything different. I hope my son is alive."
She's hoping, but she doesn't know for sure.
Gabriella Acevedo: "Every night I pray here, every night for my son."
Her son, 18-year old Diego Acevedo, told her he was going to the Salt Lake City library five months ago. He never returned to his West Valley home.
Gabriella Acevedo: "No communication in any way. Nothing by computer, by phone, by friends, nothing. He didn't take any money from his checking account. Nothing."
Acevedo has been busy searching for her son. She and friends have put his poster everywhere they can think of, hoping someone saw something and remembers his face. It's also what they plan to do this coming weekend in Wyoming, where his car was found off I-80, along with police from West Valley and Sweetwater County.
Gabriella Acevedo: "I want to go because I want to be 100-percent sure my son is not there. If he's not there, maybe he's alive someplace."
If you would like to help in the search, it begins at 6:00 in the morning this Saturday at the Little America hotel in Wyoming. West Valley police this afternoon said the case is still open and still frustrating.
