SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Bountiful woman whose legs, right arm and finger were amputated due to infections associated with the birth of a child has settled a $16 million medical malpractice lawsuit.
Lisa Speckman, 46, filed the lawsuit in 2006. She said medical staff did not diagnose and treat indications of infection before her daughter was delivered on Feb. 25, 2005. The lawsuit also said medical personnel did not diagnose or treat a new infection that produced a "flesh-eating disease" following a Caesarean section.
Lawyers for LDS Hospital, Intermountain Health Care, doctors and nurses and others named in the lawsuit denied any wrongdoing.
The settlement was reached in late September and a 3rd District Court judge dismissed the lawsuit on Oct. 1. Terms were not disclosed.
