It's a changing of the guard in the Salt Lake County Council. For the first time, Democrats now enjoy a slight 5-to-4 edge on the council.

Political scientist Tim Chambless from the University of Utah says that could mean fewer headaches for Mayor Peter Corroon.

"One could infer that Mayor Corroon will have a more friendly council that will be voting to approve the budget items that he puts forth," Chambless said.

Chambless says it could also signal more emphasis on quality of life issues, such as managing growth and preserving open space.
