PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Utah County prosecutors have pulled a father's plea agreement off the negotiating table after learning that the man's 3-week-old child had recently died.

Cameron Nielsen was expected to plead guilty to four second-degree felony counts of child abuse in 4th District Court on Thursday.

Instead, prosecutors told a judge the deal is "off" while they review an autopsy report for Jason Neilsen.

Prosecutor Tim Taylor says he needs to know if new charges are warranted.

4th District Judge Gary Stott says Taylor has until Nov. 20 to file new charges or proceed.

Jason Neilsen was hospitalized in May with rib and skull fractures and bleeding on his brain. He was left blind and later placed in foster care.

His father told police he had squeezed the child's rib cage and threw him into a crib.
