SOUTH SALT LAKE — A Millcreek woman who police say drove into a golf course pond with her infant child now faces criminal charges in the boy’s death.
Brittanie Mae Miloshevsky, 28, of Millcreek, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with child abuse homicide, a first-degree felony, and DUI, a class A misdemeanor.
On June 7, South Salt Lake police responded to a golf course near 3300 South and 600 West about 11:15 p.m. on a report of a vehicle driving on the course.
An officer reported finding Miloshevsky lying on the grass inside the fenced area of the golf course. “Miloshevsky told (police) that she did not know how she got to the golf course and admitted she had been drinking vodka,” according to charging documents.
Police noticed that Miloshevsky was “soaking wet” and they spotted car parts and tire tracks leading into a pond on the golf course, the charges state. An officer then saw “the roof of a vehicle that was almost fully submerged.”
Miloshevsky was asked several times if anyone else was in the vehicle and she said no, according to the charges. But just before midnight, she told police she was with her children when she was driving. That’s when an officer went into the water and found a 1-year-old boy still strapped to his car seat under the water.
The boy — who may have been in the pond for more than two hours — was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries the next morning, the charges state.
Investigators determined that Miloshevsky had begun drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana several hours before the crash, the charges state. Her blood alcohol level was 0.21%, or a little over four times the legal limit.
