Surgical and rehab center briefly threatened by brush fire

Crews responded to a brush fire near Foremaster Ridge at 5 p.m. Saturday evening. St. George Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Hooper said the fire was near the St. George Medical Center and briefly threatened a surgical center and rehab center. However, crews were able to control the fire without any property damage or injuries in about 3 hours. Officials estimate the fire burned about 16 acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation. — Jen Riess, KSL.com

Wire Pass Fire growing, hikers in canyon evacuated

The Wire Pass Fire is estimated at 1,535 acres, according to David Hercher with the Bureau of Land Management. Kane County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Alan Alldredge said at 10 a.m. the fire was estimated at 1,000 acres. Hercher said crews "seem to have a pretty good handle on it." The fire is moving both East and West. It started on the west side of House Rock Valley Road and is moving East. Hercher said ground crews and air support are working to keep the fire from growing, but are expecting 50 MPH winds Sunday. Alldredge said crews have evacuated all of the hikers and campers that they could, but those still in the canyon will be safe. — Jen Riess, KSL.com

Rock Path Fire now 25% contained

The Rock Path Fire, which previously included the Antelope Fire, is now 25% contained. A total of 250 personnel is working against the fire running through grasses with short spotting, fire officials said in a news release. No structures are currently threatened and there have not been any evacuations or closures. — Jen Riess, KSL.com

Wire Pass Fire closes roads, hikers evacuated.

House Rock Valley Road in Kane County is now closed, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. Hikers and campers near Wire Pass Trail, Buckskin Trail, The Wave and Stateline Campground have been evacuated. — Jen Riess, KSL.com

New fire threatening trailheads and power lines in Kane County

A new wildfire, dubbed the Wire Pass Fire, has started in Kane County near the Wire Pass Trailhead and has grown to somewhere between 400 and 600 acres. No roads are currently closed, but state and federal fire officials advised caution when vacating the area and said smoke is currently a concern. "Hikers in the vicinity of Wire Pass & The Wave are being evacuated," fire officials said via Utah Fire Info. They added that the fire is threatening trailheads and power lines. The cause of the Wire Pass Fire is not currently known.

Canal Fire threatening structures, power lines near Oak City

Fire officials are responding to a new fire in Millard County. The Canal Fire is threatening structures and power lines north of Oak City, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. The fire is currently burning an estimated 200 acres. What caused it is currently unknown.

Crews combining Antelope and Rock Path Fire

Two fires south of the Sevier Playa are being combined into one by fire crews. Both fires were started by lightning on Thursday, according to the Bureau of Land Management. The Antelope Fire is burning approximately 3,000 acres. Crews are conducting a burn-out operation to combine it with the Rock Path Fire, which is burning approximately 6,000 acres. No structures were threatened as of Friday afternoon. The fire is wind-driven, running through grasses, according to officials. A combined 271 personnel team is working with multiple resources — including air attack, a lead plane, two helicopters and nine engines — to fight the blaze. There are no evacuations or closures at this time. — Jen Riess, KSL.com
