BOUNTIFUL — A young missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died Saturday in an auto-bicycle crash in Georgia.

Elder McKay Bergeson, 19, of Bountiful was on his bike in LaFayette, Georgia, when he was hit by a vehicle, church spokesman Daniel Woodruff said Sunday.

Elder Bergeson had been serving in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission since December 2019.

"We express our sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones as they mourn his passing and remember his life," Woodruff said in a statement. "We pray they will feel the love of our Heavenly Father at this difficult time."

Elder Bergeson's companion was not injured, Woodruff said.
