PROVO — A man was arrested early Tuesday after police say he threatened to infect fast-food employees with COVID-19.

The 21-year-old, who is listed in court documents as homeless, was arrested for investigation of commercial obstruction.

He went into a McDonald’s, 211 W. Cougar Blvd. in Provo, harassed employees and refused to leave, according to police.

“(The man) then said that he was just joking. (He) then ordered food and when he was asked to pay, (he) said that he did not want any of the food. The employee said (the man) was refusing to leave the store and repeatedly told the employee that he did not like her attitude and she better change it,” a police affidavit states.

“She said (he) was in the store talking to himself, then threatened to infect everyone with COVID-19.”

Since February, the man has been charged in four separate cases in Utah, including three cases in the past week in Salt Lake Justice Court, according to court documents,

He was charged Tuesday with shoplifting, trespassing on Monday, and criminal mischief on April 7, he was also convicted Feb. 27 in Carbon County Justice Court of DUI, according to court records.
