IN THE NEWS: ONLINE GROCERY SERVICES AND COVID-19

LONDON (AP) — You’d think a pandemic that forces virtually everyone to stay home would be a major boon for online grocery services. However, that hasn’t been so. Instead many online services are finding it tough to keep up with demand. One reason is a lack of workers to handle the surge in orders. Another is that online food delivery sites often use the same retail outlets the rest of us do. For example, if most brick-and-mortar stores are out of toilet paper, online shopping services will also have trouble scoring some.

IN THE NEWS: APP BEING USED FOR COVID-19 TRACKING

UNDATED (AP) — It started as a way to keep track of a North Dakota school’s football fans traveling to and from Texas. But now an app developed by a Microsoft engineer is being pressed into battle in the fight against the novel coronavirus. The Care19 app deals with what’s called contact tracing. It tracks the movements of those who test positive for COVID-19 to find others who may have had contact with the sick person. The app can also be used to collect data to help refine computer models that are used to predict how deadly the coronavirus may be.

ON THE WEB: ONLINE FITNESS OPTIONS

CYBERSPACE (AP) — For many people, staying at home with lots of time on their hands may end up putting inches on their waistlines. But there are some online options available to help housebound people from getting in — or staying in — shape. For example, the YMCA has launched free online classes under its YMCA 360 program. Several other gyms, like Planet Fitness, are providing free live-streamed workouts.
