SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man has been charged twice in two separate cases over the past week with stealing a firearm from another person.
On March 17, a man told police he was at a party in Salt Lake City when he gave his handgun to a friend. That’s when two people he did not know grabbed the gun and ran. When the gun owner chased after the men, they fired a shot at him, according to charging documents.
No one was injured. Ashish Biswa, 23, was later identified as one of the men in that case, the charges state.
On March 21, three men met Biswa, Awad Majok, 19, and a 16-year-old boy at a TRAX station in Draper, according to charging documents. One of the victims had “a handgun in a holster on his hip” and got out of his car to talk to the other group, the charges state. As he did, Majok grabbed the gun and the three suspects ran, according to charging documents.
As the other group gave chase, Biswa “pulled a gun from his waistband and told them to ‘back off,’” the charges state.
Draper police located the three a short time later, arrested them at gunpoint and recovered two guns, according to the charges. Majok is listed as a co-defendant on Biswa’s charging documents.
Biswa was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and possession of a weapon by a restricted person, a second-degree felony.
Majok was also charged Wednesday with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
On March 27, Biswa was charged in another case with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and possession of a weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
Prosecutors have asked Biswa be held on $250,000 bail. A $250,000 warrant was issued for Majok’s arrest Wednesday afternoon.
