OGDEN — An Ogden man accused of shooting out more than four dozen windows at businesses around Ogden and Riverdale now faces felony charges.

Derrick Corey Mackey, 41, was charged Friday in 2nd District Court with causing a catastrophe and criminal mischief, both second-degree felonies.

From Sunday through Tuesday, prosecutors believe he used a BB gun to shoot numerous windows, including 40 businesses damaged in Ogden and 14 related cases in Riverdale. The Ogden “current estimated total damage value amounts to $25,000-$30,000. The current Riverdale total was at least $5,000 between all of the businesses,” according to charging documents.

Detectives identified a large Ford F250 or F350 with a lifted suspension and extended cab as a possible suspect vehicle.

“This vehicle was recorded by video driving in the area of several of the victimized businesses as well as stopped in Riverdale ... mere minutes after the latest criminal mischief was called in,” the charges state. “Derrick denied shooting out windows with the BB gun, but provided inconsistent statements regarding his whereabouts (Tuesday night).”

Ogden police called his actions “deplorable in any circumstance, but especially heinous when viewed in light of the sacrifices our community is making to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.”
