OGDEN — Police have arrested an Ogden man accused of causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage by shooting out windows.

Derrick Corey Mackey, 41, was arrested Tuesday for investigation of causing a catastrophe and criminal mischief.

Between Sunday and Tuesday, police believe he used a BB gun to shatter numerous windows.

“This widespread damage is further detailed by 22 total businesses damaged in Ogden ... along with an additional 14 related cases in Riverdale,” according to a police affidavit, which estimates the amount of damage in Ogden at between $25,000 and $30,000, and $5,000 in damage in Riverdale.

Detectives began looking for a vehicle described as a “large Ford F250 or F350 with a lifted suspension and extended cab,” the affidavit states.

Minutes after the latest glass-shattering episode was reported on Tuesday, a truck was located and pulled over by Ogden police. Inside, officers found Mackey with a BB gun and a full bag of BBs, according to the affidavit.

“This type of activity is deplorable in any circumstance, but especially heinous when viewed in light of the sacrifices our community is making to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus,” Ogden police said in a statement.

“The Ogden Police Department continues to operate, despite the present challenges. We will utilize all lawful and legal means to ensure that those who would prey upon our community are held accountable.”
