PROVO — A Provo man who police say “groomed” a 13-year-old girl for sex has been charged with multiple counts of rape.

Jordan Dewey Brown, 35, was charged Monday in 4th District Court with four counts of rape of a child, a first-degree felony; two counts of drug possession, a third-degree felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

The girl, now 16, recently told police “that she had a sexual relationship with Jordan Brown when she was 13-years old,” according to charging documents. “She described a typical sexual grooming process: Mr. Brown spending time with her, telling her she was beautiful, taking her shopping and buying her clothes, and telling her he wanted her but could not have her.”

The girl told police this began when she was in eighth grade, the charges state. Brown was 32 at the time.

“She said that eventually Mr. Brown kissed her and immediately said he hated himself for liking her,” according to charging documents.

As part of the police investigation, the girl sent text messages to Brown stating that she was thinking about telling a counselor what had happened.

“Mr. Brown repeatedly asked the victim not to tell anyone. The victim asked what would happen if she did tell, and Mr. Brown replied, ‘I will go to prison,’” the charges state.

Brown was in possession of methamphetamine and heroin when he was arrested by police. Brown has a long criminal history of drug usage, according to court records.
