OREM — An Orem man is accused of sharing child pornography on popular social media apps.
Jason McKay Beckstead, 35, was charged Monday in 4th District Court with 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
The investigation began in December when Instagram reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an image of child pornography had been uploaded to an account, according to charging documents.
Then in late December, another image was shared on Tumblr, the charges state. In both cases, the victim appeared to be about 11-years old, according to court documents.
Orem police and the Utah Attorney General Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force took over the case and traced the posts back to Beckstead, the charges state. On Thursday, he was arrested and a search warrant served on his home.
Prosecutors have requested bail be set at $200,000.
