LAYTON — Police are looking for at least three burglars who they say drove stolen vehicles through the front doors of two Layton gun stores Friday, causing thousands of dollars in damage and stealing an unknown number of weapons.
The burglaries occurred between 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. at Get Some Guns & Ammo, 1995 Main, and C-A-L Ranch, 88 S. Fairfield Road.
The burglars, who are still on the loose, used a stolen car to first drive through the front door of Get Some Guns & Ammo, according to Layton Police Sgt. Scott Clark. He said they were unable to gain access to any guns, however, and nothing was reported stolen.
The burglars then abandoned the vehicle inside the store before fleeing the scene in a second stolen car, Clark said.
Clark said the burglars then drove 7 miles through Layton to C-A-L Ranch. Dramatic video posted on the Layton police Facebook page shows a stolen car careening through the front door, toppling displays and sending merchandise flying across the store.
The video then shows two men jumping out of the car and running inside. A second surveillance video shows three men running out of the store while carrying multiple items. One can be seen running out with what appears to be a shotgun.
Clark said the suspects were able to steal guns from C-A-L Ranch, although he was unsure of how many and what kind were taken. As in the first burglary, a stolen car was left inside C-A-L Ranch, and the burglars fled in a separate vehicle.
